I will be starting work on Monday. I hope it all goes well and I build by IDP hours and knowledge simultaneously. I'm nervous about starting a new job because I've felt unsatisfied in architecture firms in the past. I have doubts that this kind of practice is for me but the best way to find out is to experience it firsthand. As long as I don't feel like I'm being taken advantage of as the bottom rung of the ladder I think I will be able to thrive. Respect is highly important and I need to remember that it is earned.
I was hired today at a satellite office of a large engineering firm a few minutes from my house. People have a habit of letting their brain die in a setting like this. I'll continue on my side projects so I will still have a chance of moving up after this. I'm still making progress on my thesis model and I'll probably use the money earned to build a tiny house. Next step on the tiny house is the convertible furniture. Perhaps I'll post photos at some point...
There are many steps toward becoming a registered architect. I will document my journey through this process here.
The first few leaps of mine ended in my graduation from architecture school. With an NCARB accredited BArch I am well on my way to registration.
Next, there are IDP hours. I attended a co-op school so I have completed about a third of the time required. I am in the process of starting a new job, so the number should continue to rise.
Finally, there are the ARE exams. I had my transcript sent to NCARB and I'm waiting for them to receive a copy. I may be able to begin taking exams when it arrives, but I'll need to study first.
